Finding a home

The best way to apply for social housing is through your local authority's Choice Based Lettings service. This will allow you to bid for homes with local social housing providers, including Habinteg.

However, you can also apply for accessible homes directly with us. You'll need to apply to be added to our waiting list so we can match you to a suitable accessible home.

How to apply for housing

To apply for an accessible home with Habinteg, use our property search to check that we have homes in your area that meet your needs . You can search for homes for general needs or wheelchair accessible homes for wheelchair users.

The property search will show you all the accessible homes that Habinteg manages and whether the waiting lists for them are open or closed. Please note this property search list is for information purposes only and the properties aren’t currently available.

If the waiting list is open, you can fill out an application form to join it. An open waiting list only means that we are taking applications for an area, not that a property is available.

Once we process your application, we’ll add you to our housing waiting list and you’ll be considered for properties that become available in the future.

We will not accept applications for areas with a closed waiting list.

You can also apply for properties listed on our available now page

Open waiting lists

The waiting lists for all wheelchair accessible homes for wheelchair users and their families are open to applications from households that need these properties.

The following general needs waiting lists are open for applications:

·       Hemlington (Middlesbrough)

·       Stockton and Yarm

·       Wakefield (Ossett)

·       Hull

If the waiting list for your area is closed

Most of our general needs waiting lists are closed.

The waiting lists for our general needs homes are closed in many areas due to high demand. On occasion, we may open up the waiting lists for applications. This might only be for a limited period and only in certain areas.

If you're looking for a general needs home in an area where our list is closed, please get in touch with your local council’s housing department. We encourage you to apply to your local authority’s housing list (if you’re eligible), as some of our properties are allocated from their lists. Your local council’s housing department also advertises our available properties.

You can apply for the homes on our available now page, even if the waiting list for your area is closed.

We occasionally advertise vacancies on our social media channels, so be sure to keep an eye on our Twitter page and our Instagram page.

Who can apply?

Anyone can apply to be placed on our waiting lists for accessible housing. However, please note dogs and cats aren’t allowed in flats, apart from trained assistance dogs, i.e. guide and hearing dogs.

We will accept your application provided that the waiting list is open and that we have properties suitable for you.

How our waiting list works

We do not operate a point system. We operate a banding system to prioritise applications and will allocate homes on the basis of need.

When will I know if my application is successful?

We’ll respond to your application in writing once it has been processed. We’ll contact you as soon as a suitable property becomes available.

If you're moving out of your area

If you’re looking to move out of your area, you can find immediately available social housing, wheelchair accessible, retirement properties and some private rented sector homes via Homefinder UK.

The Homefinder UK national mobility scheme offers case management services that help homeless households and social housing applicants of member organisations find social housing across the UK.
