Moving into a new Habinteg home: #ForAccessibleHomes case study

Photo of Zaia standing next to his wife Anita in her wheelchair in the garden of their Habinteg home with trampoline and swing set in the background.

Zaia and his family became Habinteg tenants in December 2016. Zaia is #ForAccessibleHomes.

The place we lived before had a very small bathroom and lots of steps, so my wife couldn’t move around easily. We suffered to be honest, but not anymore. This place is really big and accessible, which is important for my wife because she can move around in her wheelchair, especially the bathroom and the garden.

Because it’s an accessible home there are bars for my wife to hold on to which makes it easier for her to move around. We are happy because it has made life so much easier, and that’s the most important thing for us. All the doorframes here are huge, in the last place they were really narrow.

There are lots of benefits to living in this home. It is a very convenient area to live in because there are shops around us, and there is a national health centre right behind us, so it only takes us a minute to walk to a GP, which is especially important for me and my wife and our children. It is easy to go to anywhere from this place.
