Habinteg Housing Association has completed 29 new accessible homes in the past six months, thanks to a partnership with Hounslow Council.
The properties, which include two wheelchair user bungalows, are at Shore Close, St Thomas Road, Garth Court, Quinton Court and Gunnersbury Close, are now homes to local individuals and families.
At Shore Close, the development, pictured above, includes two wheelchair accessible bungalows with on-street car parking spaces, as well as a further three bungalows designed to be accessible and adaptable.
The accessible and adaptable homes can house a variety of people: individuals, families with children, older people and disabled people, as adaptations can be made to the home to meet a variety of different needs.
At St Thomas Road, the demolition of existing unused garages allowed five, two-storey houses to be built.
Two households are now benefitting from two houses at Garth Court, while at Quinton Court, unused garages made way for a three-storey building offering two one-bedroom and four two-bedroom homes. The building also benefits from two car parking spaces.
At Gunnersbury Court a four-storey block of 12 flats with three car parking spaces was completed last month, and all 12 flats are now home to local people.
The developments were all built by Isleworth based Star Contractors , a family-owned building firm that has been in business for over 15 years.
Matthew Kelly, Head of Development at Habinteg, said: “We’re now nearing the end of the first phase of small sites being delivered in the Hounslow borough and it is fantastic to see so many of these challenging sites with unused garages come to life.
“Sites which historically may have attracted anti-social behaviour and nuisance, are now providing much needed accessible accommodation to the people that need it most. Working with local small to medium-sized enterprise Star Contractors has also meant employment opportunities for local people.”
Councillor Tom Bruce, the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Assets, Regeneration and Development at Hounslow Council, said: “There is a shortage of accessible and adaptable homes in Hounslow, and London as a whole, and this can prevent disabled people from living independently, working, and accessing the support they need.
“We are committed to championing equal access for all of our residents with disabilities and, as part of this commitment, are working with companies like Habinteg to increase the supply of accessible housing in the borough.”
