Habinteg receives governance upgrade to G1

The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has upgraded Habinteg’s governance rating from G2 to G1 following a stability check carried out this autumn.

Since its G2 rating of June 2021, the organisation has made the necessary improvements to meet governance regulatory requirements, the RSH noted in its judgement.

“Habinteg has strengthened its governance arrangements and specifically its risk management and internal control framework. Its strategic objectives are aligned with its stated risk appetite, appropriate controls are identified, and assurance is mapped against specific risks,” the regulator said in its judgement.

Team effort

Interim CEO Martin Warhurst said: "We’re very pleased that we’ve been awarded a governance upgrade to G1 from the regulator. This achievement reflects the systematic effort that's been made to strengthen our governance arrangements and is the result of the hard work from Habinteg’s dedicated team over the past few years.

“Their on-going commitment to excellence and continuous improvement has helped us to secure this recognition and enables us to deliver a valued service to our tenants every day.”

Ellie Southwood, Chair of Habinteg’s Board, said: “This welcome news is testament to the incredible hard work of Habinteg colleagues over the last few years. We aim to ensure the improvements stick and that we're in good shape for our next inspection.”

Viability rating

Meanwhile, Habinteg has maintained its viability rating of V2.

The RSH confirmed that while the organisation’s financial plans are consistent with our financial strategy, like other social housing landlords, increasing investment in our existing homes has had a significant impact on our overall financial position.

Consumer standards

The RSH has yet to assess Habinteg against the
new Consumer Standards which came into force in April 2024. That will take place during the next In-Depth Assessment in 2025.
