Bradford scheme Eden Gardens gets new entrance doors

Our Eden Gardens scheme in Bradford recently received new automatic, wheelchair user-friendly main doors, which have improved safety for our residents.

The scheme’s old automatic doors wouldn’t close or open correctly, which meant the scheme was at risk of trespassers.

As Eden Gardens is an extra care facility, Habinteg hired security guards to man the doors for 10 weeks to ensure tenants’ safety while the doors were being produced.

Better access

As the old doors could not be fixed, our Surveyors took the opportunity to make the doors wider and more accessible for wheelchair users, which required work to the doorframe.

West Yorkshire and Humberside Neighbourhood Manager Andrea Pedder said: “It’s great to see new doors that not only secure the building, but also now allow for better access for our tenants.”

Swift work

All tenants at Eden Gardens are wheelchair users and because wheelchair sizes have become larger, a larger doorframe and opening allowed for better accessibility.

“The new doors have been a hit with tenants with several of them commenting on how much easier they are to use,” Andrea said.

Contractors worked swiftly to produce the doors and to replace them on the day.

“The aim was to ensure as little inconvenience to tenants as possible,” Andrea said. “A big thank you to our Compliance Contracts Manager for Safety, Ryan Horseman, who ensured the project was delivered safely.”
