From emergency housing to new Habinteg home

Inessa Goodman and her three children are enjoying the space of their new house after recently moving into our newly built scheme in Hounslow, west London.

Their new home is a three-bedroom property with a rear garden in Brentford, and is one of the six houses at our new Upper Butts, Brentside scheme, which was completed in February.

The Goodman’s home is built to an accessible and adaptable design which has step-free entrances and widened door widths. It's ideal for young families that need easy access for prams and pushchairs.

The family have been waiting five years to be rehoused to a larger home within the same London borough, while having been living in a one-bedroom high-rise flat.

Lack of local social housing

Inessa became homeless just after the birth of her eldest daughter in 2019. The family were put into emergency housing and then rehoused to a one-bedroom flat, where they lived for five years.

With almost 6,000 people on the council housing waiting list in Hounslow in 2023, a lack of local social homes means people are forced to live in unsuitable accommodation, like the Goodman family.

“We were on the 17th floor of a high-rise block, and it was very noisy,” said Inessa, 37.

Now Inessa and her three children - who are aged between two and five years old - are over the moon about their new home.

“It’s completely changed our lives… we’re very happy and feel very lucky to live here. The house is in a lovely area on a quiet, no-through road,” she said. “I’m most looking forward to spending time in our garden.”

Good design for all
