Find out what Hainault, Red bridge, Waltham Forest, Newham Neighbourhood Coordinator, Tracy Roberts, would do if she was CEO of her region for a week and why she would love to live next door to the singer Pink.
What’s your job like?
Challenging, stressful, interesting, busy, rewarding, fulfilling. Organisation is key to staying on top of the role.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Getting to know the tenants, making a difference to their day to day lives, and being part of a great organisation.
What’s the best thing about working on your schemes?
Making the schemes nicer places to live. I always ask myself, if I lived here, how would I like it and what would I want in place?
How many tenants’ lives do you change in a week?
Hopefully quite a few.
Are you a cat or a dog person?
Definitely a dog person. I’ve got two cross chihuahuas and a 5-month-old golden retriever, so life is busy!
What’s the nicest thing that’s happened to you on your scheme?
Simply being thanked by tenants for the improvements I have made to the scheme and in turn their lives.
If you had to be CEO of your region for one week, what would you do?
I’d spend one week on the scheme with a Neighbourhood Coordinator to see how busy it is, while trying to manage the workload, expectations, and challenges of the role. I’d ask the frontline member of staff what’s needed to be put in place for the organisation to be even better and ask how they are finding their role.
If you were able to ask one thing of all the tenants in your region, what would it be?
To check in with your neighbour from time to time.
Which scheme in your region would you like to live on and why?
Bramston Close because the flats are spacious, snug and comfortable, bright, have lots of storage, and its communal garden is beautiful. There you can be part of the community but also shut your door and be alone to enjoy your own private space.
You’ve got a bonus holiday for being a great Neighbourhood Manager/Coordinator – how do you spend it?
A wellness retreat where I can completely switch off and relax.
If you could choose, who would you most like to live next door to, and why?
The singer Pink because she is accepting of all people with no judgement, stands up for what she believes in. She may even invite me on tour with her or I could hear her sing through the walls.
Please explain what the name Habinteg means.
It comes from the Latin phrase “Habitat Integrans” meaning “Integrated Housing”. The company was founded in 1970 by leading figures of the Spastics Society (Scope) with the objective of providing homes for disabled people that were integrated into mainstream housing schemes.
