Habinteg tenant Stuart Carter was chosen to switch on Yarm, Stockton-on Tees’ Christmas lights in front of hundreds of people last month.
Stuart, who has Cerebral Palsy, has been a Habinteg tenant for nearly 10 years. He was nominated to switch on Yarm’s Christmas lights by one of Yarm’s local councillors, John Coulson, who is also a Habinteg Tenant Representative.
John said: “I’ve known Stuart (and his family) for 20 years and he’s a privilege to know and live alongside. He’s a great tenant and he’s well-loved within the community. Having the lights switched on by our ‘local celeb’ was the perfect ending to a roller coaster year.”
Stuart is known as a ‘local celeb’ in Yarm as he can often be found chatting away with the locals in the Age UK shop where he volunteers or in the local coffee shop.
Habinteg’s Neighbourhood Co-ordinator for Yarm, Donna Rowe, said: “We’re so proud of Stuart, he’s a valued community member in the North East and he’s such a great personality at Rigby House. It was great to have a true local celeb switch on this year’s Christmas lights.”
