Know your rights as a tenant

As a social housing tenant, you have key rights under government legislation that protect your living conditions and ensure your home is safe, secure, and well-maintained.

Knowing your rights will help you deal with any problems and ensure you are treated fairly.

What are your rights?

As a Habinteg tenant, you have several important rights. First, you have the right to stay in your home for a long time, often indefinitely, as long as you meet your responsibilities. This gives you and your family stability and peace of mind.

Your home must also meet the Decent Homes Standard. These standards help ensure your home is comfortable and safe. Your home should be in good condition, free from serious health risks, and have a working heating system.

Another important right is having a say in how your home is managed. You can ask your Neighbourhood Coordinator for information on how your home is cared for and share your thoughts to help us improve our services.

When you know your rights, you’re better equipped to make the most of your tenancy and ensure your home remains a place you're proud to live in. We’ll also keep you informed about any changes to your tenancy or the services we provide.
