Find out what Customer and Building Safety Manager John Gilmore does in his role, what he enjoys about working for Habinteg and what he likes to do in his spare time (clue: it involves music).
How would you describe your job?
I mainly manage Habinteg’s Asset Compliance Team and ensure we’re compliant across the main six legislative areas of asbestos, Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), fire, gas, lifts and water.
Alongside this, I oversee compliant-related remedial repairs and planned asset replacements across all Habinteg homes. R emedial repairs are repairs to things such as home boilers and fire equipment that is required after a compliance check has been completed. If any of these items need to be replaced, my team oversees the work through Habinteg's Planned Programme.
How long have you been working in building safety?
I’ve been working in building safety for over 30 years!
What’s the best thing about your job?
Helping tenants and staff brings a lot of job satisfaction.
Why is your job important?
Compliance is all about keeping tenants, and the buildings they live in, safe. My job is to make sure this happens so that tenants have safe and sustainable homes to live in.
What do you like about working for Habinteg?
Working with people that genuinely want to make a difference.
If you were able to ask one thing of all the tenants, what would it be?
Please do all you can to keep appointments for regulatory checks such as gas servicing and electrical wiring inspections.
Which Habinteg scheme in your region would you like to live on and why?
Anywhere there are coffee mornings and plenty of biscuits!
You’ve got a bonus holiday for being a great member of our Assets Team – how do you spend it?
Messing about with my guitars or playing golf.
If you could have a dog, cat or a rabbit as a pet, which one would you choose and why?
Dog. We have a bonkers Cocker Spaniel named Bruce.
What’s your favourite Friday night takeaway?
Definitely Indian food.
What’s your dream holiday destination?
A place called Sechelt, which is near Vancouver Island, in Canada. It’s a wild, coastal spot with forests which I love for its walking trails, plus the wildlife is amazing! Haven't see Bigfoot yet though...
What qualities make for a good neighbour?
Friendly, happy to help but not nosey!
If you could choose, who would you most like to live next door to, and why?
English guitarist and member of Pink Floyd rock band, David Gilmour (who’s no relation of mine!) and perhaps pick up a few guitar lessons along the way.
