Take on a new role in 2024 as an involved tenant

If you’re looking for a new challenge in 2024 why not think about having your say and helping to shape Habinteg's services?

Tenant involvement empowers tenants to influence Habinteg's services through six different panels and groups. You can get involved in service scrutiny, focus groups, joint working and even staff reruitment or represent your community as a Tenant Representative.

We'll pay your expenses where necessary so that you can attend meetings and events, and we'll support you with any training you need for the role which will add value to your CV.

See what Mandy Booth has to say below about being a tenant representative (rep) for her scheme.

Putting the UNITY back into CommUNITY

“Overall, I enjoy being a tenant rep for Habinteg’s Park Road scheme in Hull. Before I became a rep, several neighbours had come to me for advice on matters like repairs and general concerns, so when my Neighbourhood Coordinator asked me to work alongside him as tenant rep, I felt I had the ability to undertake the role.

With plenty of help, advice, and support from my Neighbourhood Coordinator, I feel we’ve started to make a difference on the Park Road Scheme in supporting tenants. I’m a very approachable person, which means I already have some of the skills needed to help tenants.

I’ve found that as rep, you learn to be a good listener and being non-judgemental provides me with skills to be supportive and provide guidance, without stepping over the mark.

I really enjoy the weekly get together with the Neighbourhood Coordinator where I highlight potential problems so that we can discuss an approach before things escalate. We’ve also organised several tenant get-togethers and each one has been more popular than the last.

The Park Road scheme tenants are now getting the UNITY back in the commUNITY.  I’m hoping that in the new year, we’ll be able to work on getting more tenants involved. I have a few ideas to put forward to help the community grow and bond by holding more regular coffee mornings, bingo afternoons, and wheelchair yoga.

I want all tenants to feel included, proud, and happy to be part of the Habinteg commUNITY. Being a Habinteg tenant is not about me, you, her, him or them, it’s about all of US. Every tenant has the right to feel included and, with ongoing support, I’ll try to make a difference.”
