It’s one thing to finally get your own home, but then you have to wonder, how am I going to furnish it?
When wheelchair-user David Slater got the keys to his wheelchair-adapted Habinteg flat in Houghton Regis, he faced a common dilemma: no white goods… until he heard about our White Goods & Furniture Fund.
White goods fund
“I was living with family in London before this flat came up,” he said. “Now, I can live independently, which is great, but I didn’t have all the key pieces of furniture. A friend, who’s also a Habinteg tenant, told me about the fund.
Habinteg set up the White Goods & Furniture Fund to support our tenants who might not otherwise be able to replace broken furniture or white goods.
Tenants can apply for the fund to buy key items such as a fridge, cooker, washing machine, or table and chairs through their Neighbourhood team, who will help them with the application.
Helping hand
David said: “The washing machine means I can do my own washing, which is cheaper and much easier than taking it to a laundrette, and I don’t have to think about taking out a loan to buy a machine.
“If you’re a Habinteg tenant who needs a helping hand, go for it and apply to the fund. The money is there to help you.
“Thank you very much, Habinteg.”!”
Feedback
David told us the fund’s application form would be much easier to complete if we could make some questions clearer. Thanks to David’s feedback, we have reviewed the application form and are making improvements.
