Did you know that every Habinteg scheme has a Neighbourhood Coordinator who can help you with any questions about your tenancy and your home?
Your Neighbourhood Co-ordinator is your main contact for anything related to your home and community, and after you move in, they’ll check in with you regularly during your tenancy. But that’s not all they do.
Donna Holmes, Habinteg’s Head of Housing, said: “Neighbourhood Coordinators are an essential link between Habinteg and our tenants, and other organisations. Thinking about what is right for our tenants, helping Habinteg to deliver quality services and making communities a better place for people to live are at the heart of the role.”
The role
Our Coordinators are an integral part of scheme life. They carry out health and safety checks, helping Habinteg to maintain clean and safe communal areas and are there to respond to your enquiries as they arise.
Regular home visits and tenancy audits are also part of their role. These audits can help to identify any issues before they become larger problems. If any concerns do come up, they will report them to the Neighbourhood Manager.
If you require any essential aids or adaptations to your home, your Neighbourhood Coordinator can support you with that process and help you liaise with external organisations, such as your local authority for example, to apply for such adaptations.
They also liaise with Habinteg’s surveyors, contractors, other colleagues and professionals, to ensure tenants are happy in their homes.
Building a sense of community is also a key focus for Neighbourhood Co-ordinators. They help to organise meetings or activities that allow you to share your ideas for improving your scheme.
“Each day is different, but being seen, being on the ground and having face-to-face time with our tenants and contractors is essential,” said South West Neighbourhood Coordinator Janine Clarke.
Your Neighbourhood Co-ordinator will provide you with information about on-scheme events, maintenance schedules, and community projects. Whether it’s news about communal area repairs or advice on our Tenant Led Improvement Budget , you can count on them to keep you in the loop.
Community support
Neighbourhood Co-ordinators can also help you with questions about your rent account, if you need help with making your payments, and can guide you through the process. They work with our Rent Assist Team who can advise you about benefits and work with you on rent payment plans if you fall into arrears.
If you’re experiencing Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in your community, your Neighbour Coordinator can carry out risk assessments and investigations and will work with local authorities and police to support you in resolving the matter.
“Seeing and speaking with the tenants is one of the best things about working on scheme,” said Central & East Neighbourhood Coordinator Caroline Grimwood. “I like being there because I can identify problems or issues first hand and help to resolve them or find solutions.”
Responding to emergencies
Your Neighbourhood Coordinator ensures that safety rules are followed by neighbours and visitors in and around your home. They can offer guidance on health and safety, including fire safety procedures and what to do in an emergency.
Their main goal is to help everyone live safely and independently in their home, ensuring your feedback, concerns, and thanks are listened to and acted on.
“I love that I get to speak with tenants about what changes they’d like to see happen on their scheme and then help deliver these changes,” Caroline added.
If you have any questions or need help, your Neighbourhood Coordinator is available. If you don’t know who they are or how to get in touch with them, please contact our Customer Services Team at Habinteg Direct on 0300 365 3100 or via email at direct@habinteg.org.uk.
