Whatever your situation, our Rent Assist team is here to help

Habinteg’s Rent Assist team can provide help to any tenant who thinks they may be about to fall into rent arrears, may already be in arrears or might need benefits advice.

Our friendly team can create an affordable plan with you, based on your circumstances, to help you reduce and clear your rent arrears. We’ll monitor the repayment plans regularly and work with you if we need to find a better solution.

Contact the Rent Assist team as soon as possible if you’re having problems paying your rent by calling Habinteg Direct on 0300 365 3100 (select option 5) or speak to your local Neighbourhood team.

You can also seek independent help and advice from: Citizens Advice (local numbers in phonebook); National Debt Line: 0808 808 4000 or Shelter: 0808 800 4444.

Disability Rights UK benefits advice

Our partnership with Disability Rights UK provides access to free benefits advice for all our tenants. We’ve referred 55 tenants since April 2023 and 39 of those referrals have seen a positive impact on their finances.

Please call 0300 365 3100 and ask to speak to a Rent Assist Officer if you’d like to be referred. The service is available to all tenants, regardless of your employment status, disability status or whether you are in rent arrears.

Check your benefit entitlement

Benefits calculators can tell you which benefits you might get and how much money you could get. To get an accurate answer, you’ll need information about your savings, income, pension, childcare payments and any existing benefits for you and your partner.

If you have a question about benefits, work, money, housing problems or something similar, you can also contact a local independent advice organisation. You’ll find local advice services at Advice Local.

Discretionary housing payments

We have helped many tenants to access Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) from a pot of money held by local councils to help people in rent arrears.

A DHP is available for a variety of reasons and can help you meet rent payments if your benefit entitlement is not covering all your rent. For further help and information, please call 0300 365 3100 and ask for the Rent Assist team.
