Our tenants' Editorial Panel have made their decision on the winner and runners-up for this year’s Garden Competition.
We’d like to say thank you to all the tenants who entered. We loved seeing the snaps of your unique outdoor spaces, from blooming borders to colourful plant pots and impressive topiary.
We hope you enjoy this year’s winning entries and that they provide inspiration for your green spaces next year, whether you have a garden, a balcony or window boxes.
And the winner is…
We’re pleased to announce that John Sadler at our Leeds Roundhay scheme is the winner of our 2024 Garden Competition.
John has won a £100 National Garden Gift Card, which he can use to buy gardening products at thousands of outlets across the UK.
The Editorial Panel chose John’s entry (seen above and below) because they thought it was beautifully landscaped and filled with colour and texture.
Speaking on behalf of the judging team, Habinteg tenant and Editorial Panel member, Kerry Thompson, said: “John’s garden definitely had the wow factor. It looked like a peaceful place to relax in, and it gave us all garden envy!”
John said: “I’m delighted to win the competition as all my hard work has been recognised. My lovely wife lived with me here for many years until she died. The garden is very much a memory of her. She loved it so much.
“When I make a visit to a garden centre to spend the voucher, I will look for ideas of what to plant in the garden throughout the winter months,” John said.
And the second prize goes to…
Mr and Mrs Girling from our Norwich Montgomery Court scheme. The couple won a £60 National Garden Gift Card for their colourful container garden (below, right).
Speaking about their entry, Billy Girling said: “Creating a lovely colorful garden with an array of plants and rose bushes is something that my wife and I have been doing for years."
"Neighbours and passersby always comment how lovely our garden looks as it also brightens up the close we live on. We'll be using the gift vouchers for next year's planting. All the spring bulbs are now planted...roll on springtime," Billy said.
And third prize goes to…
Melanie Wills from our Cornwall Crofty Close scheme. Melanie has won a £30 National Garden Gift Card.
Melanie’s photos (below) included one of her flower-filled garden at dusk lit up by fairy lights, which the judges loved. She said: “It was a lovely surprise to get the voucher in the post and we’re looking to use the prize on flowers for our hanging baskets for some winter colour.
“After Habinteg fitted a new kitchen into my home last April, we decided to create an extra area for the summer months in our garden. The plan was to bring colour to the garden, making it a pleasant place to relax and for insects, butterflies and bees. We were pleased with the results, so decided to enter your competition.”
Massive congratulations to our three winners and many thanks to everyone who entered the competition.
