Your annual gas & electrical safety checks

At Habinteg, we take the health and safety of our tenants seriously. Our gas and electrical safety checks helps us ensure your home is safe to live in.

Gas safety

As your landlord, it’s important that we check your gas appliances and supply pipe every year to ensure your home is safe.

Please do your best to keep your gas servicing appointments. If you can’t make the appointment, please let us know, as soon as you can, that you need to rearrange it by calling our Customer Services Team at Habinteg Direct on 0300 365 3100.

It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on your gas boiler between your annual gas servicing checks.

If you notice a problem with it, there’s no need to wait for your annual checks. Call Habinteg Direct on 0300 365 3100 or let us know via your online Habinteg account.

To ensure your home remains gas safe:

  • If you smell gas, open all doors and windows, leave your home, then call the National Gas Emergencies 24/7 freephone number 0800 111 999 to report it. Only use a mobile phone from outside the property.
  • If you think a gas appliance maybe faulty, do not use it.
  • Never cover appliances or block air vents or outside flues.
  • Do not store bottled gas in your home.

Electrical safety

It’s also important that we come into your home every five years to check the safety of your electricity supply and electrical appliances.

Our contractors, CLP Group carry out the electrical checks. If you've received a letter from them, please agree your appointment and allow them access to your home.

If it’s not possible for an engineer to visit you on the date we’ve set, please give us a call as soon as possible so that we can reschedule by calling 0300 365 3100.

Please remember that these checks are part of your tenancy agreement, and enable us to help keep you safe within your home.

Here are some of the things you can do to reduce the risk of fire or injury from an electrical fault:

  • Do not try to make any alterations to the wiring, sockets or light fittings in your home. If you’d like to make any changes, please speak to us about it first.
  • Switch off all appliances when you are not using them and always switch off and disconnect your TV from its power source at night.
  • Make sure all plugs are wired correctly.
  • Check flexes regularly, never use damaged ones and do not run them under carpets or rugs.
  • When buying electrical appliances, always try to buy one with a CE marking as this verifies that it's safe for sale and use in the European Economic Area.
  • If your hands are wet or damp, do not touch any switches.
  • Never wire more than one electrical appliance into one plug.
  • Do not run any appliances from a light fitting.
  • When possible, always charge battery operated items like e-scooters, laptops, mobile phones during the daytime.

If you’re concerned about the safety of any aspect of your home, please give us a call on 0300 365 3100.
